In June 2026, the FDA issued nine warning letters to OTC companies over products containing talc, citing concerns about potential asbestos contamination. The letters identified cGMP deficiencies involving ingredient and finished product testing, supplier qualification, validation and recordkeeping including instances where required testing had not been performed or supporting test reports were unavailable. The FDA also emphasized the need for accurate application of applicable USP test methods.

Cosmetic manufacturers should use these actions as an opportunity to review their talc-related quality systems, testing programs, supplier oversight and documentation to strengthen compliance readiness and quality controls. Reach out to us for more information.
